The internet is forever! Do not put things on the internet that could embarrass you later on in life, hurt your career or life options later on, or be used against you in any other way.
Don't put personal information online! People can find it anywhere and then use it against you. Ask someone to look at your various social media platforms to see what they can see. If it is anything personal, TAKE IT DOWN!
Don't forget to use your smart phone SMARTLY! Do not answer texts or phone calls from strangers you don't recognize.
Handle hacking intelligently! It happens sometimes to some people, but it still sucks! Change your password if you get hacked to something more difficult. Send anyone who got the nasty email an apology email to let them know you were hacked. Use your antivirus software to check your computer. Backup your files and make sure you don't lose anything :-)
NEVER send any pictures of yourself (CLOTHED OR NAKED)! This is the most personal information you can give.
Be smart when you use the internet! It is very important that you stay safe on the way to and from school, when you go out with your friends, and even when you are on the internet. Do not chat with anyone you don't know on the internet (or off of it) AND don't give anyone any information that is special to you (address, phone number, email address, social security number, driver's license number, etc.). If someone is bullying you on the internet (calling you names, telling you to do bad things, etc.) let someone know, report them to the website that you are on, and stop talking to them!
If you know someone who is not being internet smart, tell them that you think they need to do a better job. If they don't listen to you, tell an adult that knows them (teacher, parent, etc.) what you have seen them do or post and allow them to talk to them. It's important that EVERYONE is SAFE!
